Monteverde, Costa Rica, is famous for its cloud forests, biodiversity, and adventure activities. To get to this must-see destination you have to drive up the mountains on windy roads all the way through the clouds. Located 3 hours northwest from San Jose Monteverde is a true paradise for nature lovers and adrenaline junkies. Make the most out of your trip with all the top things monteverde has to offer:
Hanging Bridges:
A total of 8 Hanging bridges give you the ability to enjoy Monteverde’s cloud forest on a whole other level – quite literally. The entire route reaches 3.6km , with each of the hanging bridges ranging in length from 50-170 meters and in height from 12-60 meters above the forest floor. Along the way you can enjoy every aspect of the cloud forest from the perfect view into the lush and green nature to seeing monkeys climb the trees next to you.
Canopy/Zip Line:
Costa Rica is a country full of action and Monteverde for sure does its part. One of the most popular things to do is ziplining and the best place to do it is at Extremo Park. They offer the longest Canopy in Costa Rica being 4 km long including 11 cables and 50m high Tarzan Swing. The tour is done in small groups. Because we did the last tour of the day (1:30pm) we were lucky enough to just have a group of three people and our guides. Which definitely made the experience very enjoyable and we were able to appreciate the 360 degree views even more.
Bungee Jump:
For people looking for the extra adrenaline rush while traveling, Extremo Park offers the perfect adventure – Bungee Jumping. The jump is unique since it’s made from a tram that moves through the cabales to the place the actual jump will take place. With a height of 143m this is the highest Bungee Jump in Costa Rica.
Night Walk:
You’ve probably all been on a tour through the rainforest during the day, but have you done one at night? No? Well then it’s time. Night walks are the perfect place to spot different animals you wouldn’t necessarily see during the day such as: sloths, snakes, sleeping toucans, as well as a variety of insects and birds. Be sure that your guide won’t let you miss any of it.
Coffee Tour:
Where are my Coffee Lovers? Because this tour is perfect for you. Coffee is a huge thing in Monteverde. Beyond tasting the coffee, discovering the intricate process of how it’s made provides fascinating insight into a significant aspect of Monteverde’s cultural heritage.
